SAMOA ISLANDS

Samoa in the South Pacific is a series of islands where white sand and coral meets lush rainforests and waterfalls. It is located in the heart of Polynesia in between Hawaii, New Zealand and Tahiti. Unlike these islands of the Asia Pacific, Samoan travel shows an island much as it always was, with development still to make inroads into the lifestyle of the islands.

Samoa is a place where the locals are proud of their reputation of being the friendliest people in the world and where they are only too happy to share their culture and traditions. A vacation in Samoa is an experience of friendliness and natural beauty.

Previously known as Western Samoa, the name was changed to just 'Samoa' in 1997. American Samoa is a neighbouring, but separate, group of Islands in Polynesia. If you look at a map of Samoa, Upolu is the main island and holds Apia, the capital of Samoa. The second largest island is Savaii. Over 95% of the population lives on these two islands.

The weather in Samoa is categorised into two seasons, wet from November to April and dry the rest of the year. Being close to the equator, days are warm all-year-round, which led the locals to their traditional Fale, or open-sided beach hut for accommodation.

Samoa also provides more modern forms of accommodation if a beach Fale is not for you. Motels and hotels in Samoa are of a good standard and have all modern conveniences.

Travel in Samoa is all about enjoying traditional island living, relaxing and learning about another rich culture.
